NY's governor recently said he would raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Is this too much? WIll this help people making lower incomes? Will it cause people to have more money to spend allowing for the economy to prosper or will it destroy jobs and tank the economy? I'll try to stay unbiased in the beginning but you probably already know where I lean.

Raising the minimum wage causes people with no skills to be out of a job putting them in an unemployment line. It speeds up automation in low paying jobs as businesses decide to lay off workers then pay the same wage as someone working as an EMT or other job that requires skills. Minimum wage is not suppose to be a livable wage. All it does it make it harder for youth and low skilled to find basic jobs to get work experience and to get use to working. Artifically raising wages does not solve the root of the problem: that people lack the skills needed to reach higher paying jobs. Instead of making McDonald's on the same level as someone saving lives is ridiculous. All that will happen is employers will have a harder time hirign people, they will lay off workers or shorten hours all of which does not solve the poverty issue raising the minimum wage is suppose to solve. Now I'll ask again, why do you think it should be raised?

And still the yes's who wish to force people to pay more have yet to explain why they feel that way. This is why people hate those who support big government- you say you need more government in people's lives and then never explain why.

Phoenix, i dont care what you think about poverty, if you dont give a shit about people starving in their own country because you belive they wouldnt have a job otherwise, then go ahead, keep beliving bullshit. if you want to seriously know something about minimum wage, this British study shows that minimum wage does not have any negative consequences for low-wage workers http://wrap.warwick.ac.uk/1560/1/WRAP_Stewart_twerp630.pdf

Let me ask you something..... is it wrong that a sport that brings in millions of dollars to companies, franchises, and tens of thousands of employees so wrong? It is wrong that a huge multi million dollar business which benefits tens of thousands of people rewards the players that make it possible with millions of dollars? Is it wrong that people decide to spend only a few years of their life playing a dangerous game that could very well cost them their career or their livelihoods get paid millions to cover these risk? People watch football- millions of them. Companies pay to have their commercials during a football game-millions of dollars. Thousands of people work in stadiums that provide them all with salaries and benefits ot help them and their families. Those players that make millions deserve every penny of it.

Benefits tens of thousands of people?... yea because Captain Capitalism is paragon of altruism xD ...it benefits the rich and poor should be happy with crumbs and games... But, let me get back for a second to something you said above... so you think that someone running with a ball deserves far more then a doctor that saves lives?

Oh yes, you got me Tirpitz. I think everyone living in poverty should starve to death so we no longer have poverty> the fake mindset you and others use to make people like me seem like heartless bastards to try and have some sort of moral high ground. How about you bring me a study that is not 12 year sold? How about you bring me a study that points to how in Los Angeles The amount of young adults employed dropped by four percent after they raised their minimum wage. How about we talk about when youth employment dropped by 15%. How about you show me a study that deals with America, based on the economic problems of America. Small business owners are the largest employers in America. You would make it harder for these people to hire others by raising their minimum wage. It is not the job of the government to force a business to pay more than it is worth to hire someone. A person with no education and no skill does not deserve to be paid $600 a week by taking my order at a drive thru menu. A business would rather hire someone with more skills and higher education than someone like a teenarger or someone tryign to work their way through college. EVery state and city in AMerica has different economics. There is no possible way the federal government will be able to establish a "livable" wage across the board. 22 states have already taken steps to increase their minimum wage above the federal minimum wage. Cities across the country have done the same. Why? Because living in New York cost a hell of a lot more than living in South Dakota. This is why South Dakota should not be forced to pay the same "livable" wage as someone living in New York.

I think a person who runs with a ball that racks in tens of millions of dollars that employs tens of thousands of people should get compensated for that. Doctors have to deal with people who can't even afford the medical treatment they've received. Now that doesn't mean kick those people out, but that also doesn't mean a doctor should be paid millions (all doctors across the board). Those people working in mines and oil rigs have it rough. They also get paid a hell of a lot more than minimum wage. But no, working in the mines or an oil rig should not make you a millionaire. Why do you feel that someone who built their company from the ground up should now be penalized for being rich? Why do you think that if someone is poor, they deserve to simply be handed a rich life? I believe in equality of opportunity. You believe in equality of end result.

Yes because obviously if you raise the minimum wage to 15 dollars nothing bad will happen, right guys? Fucking tards. The price of things will increase because muh mcdonalds job of flippings burgers doesn't pay me enough to support my 3 kids and wife. If you wanted a high paying job then you shouldn't be working at fucking McDonalds or have fucking kids in the first fucking place.

if you use the dollar menu, you can get 327 hamburgers (kinda small but that's okay because you have 327 ad you'll probably die from a heart attack from eating that many at one time so it really doesnt matter but maybe use that money to buy foods that wont kill you o.0)

I was thinking why not just get rid of wages all together? Everyone could just go to an office once a week (everyone goes on different days to minimize lines) and we all get a stack of cards that each correspond to different items and we go to the store and we get them for free? The cashier hole punches the item we got meaning we cant get it again till the following week. Everyone works for the betterment of society (because fuck individuality). Equality!!!
