When purchasing upgrades?

When purchasing an upgrade for a unit, such as Anti-aircraft units, do I obtain that unit?

For clarification, I have not purchased the "Ground Special Defence" or the "Stronger Ground Special Defence". If I purchase "Stronger Ground Special Defence" will I also obtain "Ground Special Defence" for free?

The same idea exists for strategies and units. If I purchase GW am I able to purchase Militia ingame?

For Sky meance if you use the strategy you can buy stealth plane.
If you buy Anti-aircrafts upgrade (not a good idea) you will have the possibilityto use the unit in the game.
But you will not obtain an upgrade for free.
